Gay Police Association

Gay Police Association
Formed in 1990 the national Gay Police Association (formerly LAGPA) was set up when a group of gay officers identified a need for a network to remove the feelings of isolation experienced at the time by many lesbian and gay personnel.
Within Leicestershire Constabulary, the Gay Police Association (GPA) is an integral part of the Force's support group network offering support and advice to all regular officers, police staff, community safety officers and special constables.
The GPA support network also advises chief officers and senior management of the Force on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) issues and is a member of the Force's diversity board.
The aims locally are the same as that of the national GPA:
- To work towards equal opportunities for lesbian and gay police service employees.
- To offer advice and support to lesbian and gay police service employees.
- To work towards better relations between the police service and the gay community.
The GPA support network provides the Force with 24-hour support for urgent and operational matters; welfare support - identifying appropriate welfare or counselling agencies if appropriate; support and advice on discipline issues to both management and staff and advice to chief officers and senior management on LGBT issues.
