Leicester Hate Crime Review Panel

In conjunction with Leicestershire Police, are you interested in making Leicester a safer place?

What is the Hate Crime Review Review Panel?

Leicestershire Police initially established panels over 15 years ago. Encompassed within the force policy, the panel have been, and continue to be, an enormous asset in contributing to improvements in service delivery.

The aim of the Hate Crime Review Panel

  • To maintain and increase community confidence and support for the Leicestershire Police, by ensuring that the Police response to all Hate Crimes and incidents is in tune with the needs of local people.
  • To improve relations between the Leicestershire Police and the communities of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, by valuing members and fully involving them (as members of Panel) in the review of all Hate Crime incidents. Doing this provides another avenue for the Force to consult their communities.

The Objectives of the Hate Crime Review Panel

  • To meet on a quarterly basis to review individual depersonalised racial, religious, homophobic, age, gender & disability incidents.
  • To provide advice on the investigation, prevention and reduction of such incidents.
  • To assist in shaping and influencing policy and procedure.
  • To liaise with Police personnel, and other representative groups, on relevant and wider Hate Crime issues, and in so doing, encourage victims of such incidents to report them to the Police.
  • To assist, where appropriate, in the Police response to critical incidents.

Who are we? How do I get involved?

The Panel members consist of various members of the community & outside agencies who reside within the City boundary. Police checks are carried out on all of the panel members, vetted by the Leicestershire Police Constabulary; if you would like to be a guest, or become a member, please contact the City Hate Crime Officer.
