Getting Personal with Our People

Getting Personal with Our People
Can you imagine a police force without people? Can you imagine a successful police force without really good, skilled people who know what to do and how to do it?
No, neither can we. In Leicestershire we have very good, skilled people who are dedicated to their work and who want to ensure that the Constabulary is second to none.
But to keep people skilled, supported and working to achieve the Constabulary’s values and principles we need to get personal. Our police officers and police staff need the right skills not only to carry out the work for today, but the work for tomorrow.
This means providing development for now and supporting life long learning that is focused on the individual and the organisation for the future.
It means recruiting the right people from our communities who reflect those communities and who want to make a difference.
It means providing planned career progression for police officers and police staff so that we retain our good people. It means ensuring those who are off sick or who have problems are cared for and brought back to productive work once they are able or allowed to leave with dignity.
It means providing managerial skills and data for managers to enable them to do their job properly, whether they are a sergeant, a PCSO supervisor, a detective superintendent or a finance manager. Ensuring difficulties are resolved quickly and efficiently at the earliest point, is vital to the good health of the Force and new policies and procedures that are user-friendly, coupled with training and briefings will assist with that.
The roles of staff associations, unions and support groups are essential to our police officers and police staff feeling that the organisation cares about them. The people in these groups are extremely dedicated and assist both individuals and the organisation.
Working together we will be second to none.
