Getting Personal

Leicestershire Constabulary’s stated purpose is to provide a second to none policing service.

Through the Getting Personal programme, the Constabulary aims to meet the challenge of creating a police service where people know their local police officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and are confident in officers’ ability to deal with crime and disorder issues within that community, but are also confident the Constabulary is sufficiently flexible and resilient to deal effectively with the outside threats of organised crime and terrorism.

The programme, which got underway in April 2005, is made up of three campaigns:

• Getting Personal with Communities aims to ensure the right people are in the right place in the right numbers through neighbourhood policing to effectively listen to people, engage with communities and ensure public concerns are made policing priorities. Improving the service provided to victims of crime and witnesses and complying with the National Quality of Service Commitment by adopting a more citizen focused approach is a key element of this campaign.
• Getting Personal with Criminals focuses on driving down crime by identifying and targeting prolific and persistent offenders, making better use of intelligence to increase detections and increased partnership working. Crime has fallen across all categories since the Force launched its Getting Personal programme and this is reflected in our high public confidence levels.
• Getting Personal with Our People is about ensuring every police officer, member of staff and volunteer not only knows what the Force expects from them, in terms of integrity and the highest standards of professional behaviour, but also what they can expect from the Force – support for frontline colleagues in managing their workloads, a PDR system which emphasises quantity as well as quality, effective use of our resources and skills development opportunities for supervisors.
