Appeal following robbery in King Richards Road

Police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery on King Richards Road in Leicester.

The incident happened at about 5.50 pm on Tuesday November 10, when the 69-year-old woman was walking along King Richards Road.  As she reached the pedestrian area where Kings Richards Road joins Stretton Road, she was approached by a man who snatched two of her bags from her.

During the robbery the victim was pushed to the floor and sustained a broken hand and fingers.  Following the incident, the suspect cycled off on a black mountain bike along King Richards Road before turning into Hinckley Road.

The suspect is described as dark skinned, possibly Asian, aged between 20 and 40-years old with hair in a “Beatles” mop style.  He wore a dark sports jacket and dark trousers.

PC Lucy Batchelor who is investigating the incident said “The victim is obviously feeling very upset by the incident and the injuries she sustained.

“King Richards Road is one of the main roads out of Leicester for people on their way home from work and would have been busy at that time of day.  We’d ask commuters to think back to Tuesday November 10 to see if they remember seeing anything.

“If you were a witness or know who the man on the bike, is then we would like to hear from you.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 4577 Lucy Batchelor on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 4577. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
