Appeal following burglary in Thurcourt Road

Officers are appealing for witnesses after a burglary at a home on Thurncourt Road.

The victim, a man in his eighties, left his property at around 4pm on Friday November 13, 2009 leaving his wife at home.

When he returned at around 4.20pm and went to open his front door, a man suddenly opened the door from inside and walked out from the property.

The victim noticed a second man stood in his porchway who also walked by him and left.

The victim went inside and discovered a search had been made of the address and a quantity of cash from his wife’s handbag had been taken. Also stolen were a white gold eternity ring, a gold engagement ring and a gold diamond and sapphire ring.

One of the men was carrying a metal instrument which officers believed was used to break in through the front door.

The first man is described as white, around 20-years-old, about 5’10” tall and of medium build. He had short black hair and was wearing a dark fleece type jacket.

The second man is described as white, around 20-years-old, about 5’9” tall and of slim build. He had short brown hair and was wearing a light casual jacket.

Detective Constable Denise Prichard, who is investigating the incident, said: “The victim was understandably left shocked to discover someone inside his house when he opened the front door. The incident has also left his wife upset as she had been sitting in the lounge the entire time the men were in the house.

“We would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen these men in the area at this time. Did you see the direction they took after leaving this house? We are keen to talk to anyone who may have seen some suspicious activity on Thurncourt Road last Friday, no matter how insignificant they think their information may be, we would like to speak with them."

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC 4046 Denise Pritchard on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in her identification number 4046. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
