Bank cards stolen from a car in Loughborough

Police are appealing for witnesses after two bank cards were stolen from a car parked outside a supermarket on Maxwell Drive in Loughborough.

The incident happened at about 11.45am on Sunday January 17, when the victim, a 75-year-old woman, had put her handbag and shopping in the boot of her car.

She was then approached by a man and a woman. They were holding a map and asked for directions. She spoke to the couple for a few minutes before they both walked off in the direction of the supermarket.

The victim then drove to the nearby petrol station and filled her car with petrol. When she went to pay she realised that two of her bank cards had been stolen from her handbag.

She later checked her accounts and found that money had been taken from both of them. The victim cancelled her cards and contacted police.

The man has been described as having tanned skin, 25 to 30-years-old, 5ft to 5’2” tall of medium build, clean shaven with short, slightly wavy, black hair and wearing dark clothes.

The woman has been described as white, 20 to 25-years-old, 5’8” tall of medium build with dark hair. Both have been described as having foreign, possibly European accents.

Detective Constable Loyala Overlunde, who is investigating the incident, said: “Another man and woman inside the supermarket, near to the tills, were seen leaving the store at the same time as the victim and could possibly be involved. They have been described as aged between 40 and 45-years-old.

“The couple that approached the victim in the car park were asking for directions to a hospital and the woman appeared to be pregnant. I would advise shoppers to be vigilant of their property and try to ensure that nobody sees your pin number when you are paying for items.

“I would appeal to anyone who was at the supermarket on Sunday morning and saw anybody acting suspiciously to contact me. Were you approached by a man and a woman matching this description? If so, or if you have any information about this incident, please get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 455 Loyala Overlunde on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 0455. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
