Fatal road traffic collision in Melton - UPDATED

Officers from the Force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Melton Mowbray.

The incident happened at about 7.40pm last night (Wednesday February 3, 2010) on the A606 Nottingham Road approximately 350 metres from its junction with the A6006 Asfordby Road and A607 Norman Way.

The collision involved a blue and green Mercedes HGV and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, Mr Dennis Thomas Woodcock (71) of Melton Mowbray, received serious injuries and was taken to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham where he later died. 

The driver of the HGV was not injured.

A 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Constable Peter Davies, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "The HGV was travelling along Nottingham Road from the direction of Melton at the time of the collision.

“I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicle or the pedestrian beforehand. If you have any information regarding this incident, please get in touch."
