Fatal road traffic collision in Burbage

Officers from the Force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Burbage.

The incident happened at about 8.30am this morning (Monday February 8, 2010) on the A5 Watling Street between the Hinckley Knight public house and the junction for Sketchley Meadows Business Park.

The collision involved a silver Ford Fiesta and a white Volvo artic lorry.

The driver of the Fiesta, Mr Harry Reginald Clarke (78) of Sheepy Magna, Atherstone, Warwickshire received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger in the Fiesta was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment to minor injuries.

The driver of the lorry was not injured.

Detective Constable Paul Bingham, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "The Fiesta was travelling along the A5 southbound towards the M69 and the lorry was travelling in the opposite direction.

 “I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles beforehand. If you have any information regarding this incident, please get in touch."
