Police have released the Eigen fit image of a man they are trying to trace after a man reported his car as stolen.

The incident happened at about 12.50pm on Monday January 18 when the 58-year-old victim parked his car, a blue Vauxhall Zafira, on the side of the road in Stamford Street, Glenfield.

As he sat in driver’s seat he was approached by a man who opened his door and pulled him out of the car. The man got into the drivers seat followed by a second man who got in the front passengers seat.

The two men then drove off in the car turning left at the roundabout onto Main Street.

In the car was a Lenovo laptop, a Kodak digital camera, a Tom Tom Go satellite navigation system, a green garden spade, a holdall and a large quantity of tobacco products.

Later that same day the car was recovered in Battram Road, Ellistown, but those items the victim had left in it were gone.

Police have been carrying out enquiries into the theft but are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

PC Sarah Hansell, the officer investigating the incident, said: “Although the victim’s car has been recovered there is still a considerable amount of his belongings that are missing and he is keen to get them back.

“Since the theft and since recovering the car we have been carrying out house to house and forensic enquiries, but we are still looking for more information.

“As the theft happened at 12.50pm it is likely that there was an increase of people in the area on their lunch breaks. We would like anyone who can remember being in the area who witnessed the theft to contact us. Perhaps you were driving along Stamford Street and saw the blue Zafira? Perhaps you saw where it went? Or maybe you live in Battram Road and saw who left the car there?

“We would like to hear any information you have on this so please contact us as soon as you can.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 4735 Sarah Hansell on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 4735. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
