The Tactical Support Group (TSG) is a Force resource that provides a service to the whole of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The main services it provides are specialist searching of premises and open areas, public order control at football matches and other major events, and specialist methods of entry in relation to execution of warrants.

Officers work hard to plan the execution of warrants over a number of weeks and will use various methods of entry to gain access to premises and detain anyone who is sought in connection with an enquiry.

A systematic search of the area would then be carried out and officers will take away any exhibits that are found. Searches can sometimes take the whole day, or longer, depending on what officers are looking for and the size of the area that needs searching.

Many TSG officers are trained in different areas. Some are roped access trained, enabling them to search at height and roped rescue and others some are confined space trained, which prepares them for searching in confined spaces.

The role of a TSG officer is difficult and demanding and it is crucial to be physically fit and work well as part of a team. Despite being very challenging at times, the role is ultimately rewarding as evidence uncovered during searches can prove critical to investigations and provide invaluable assistance in securing convictions.
