Officer protection training

Skills Trainers are police officers specialising in the training and development of new and current officers through physical training, first aid training and officer protection training.

Physical training involves the delivery of regular fitness tests and circuit training for all officers and police staff.

Officer protection training is designed to equip officers with general self-defence techniques and prepare them for situations they may face while on duty.

Skills Trainers work to instruct officers on all aspects of conflict management, unarmed defensive tactics, incapacitant training and the use of handcuffs or friction lock sticks.

Most days for a Skills Trainer are made up of intense physical activity, so motivation and a high level of fitness and stamina is crucial to the role.
