Archivist

Archivists in the Criminal Justice department are responsible for filing and retrieving files, which means it is necessary to work meticulously and with great care.

Their main role includes logging and filing Magistrate and Crown Court files and then retrieving any interview tapes from the tape library to store along with the files.

Often files need to be requested urgently if a defendant is appearing in court and so the information needs to be located and handled with urgency.

As you are dealing with a lot of detailed, personal information, confidentiality is essential. General administration skills and computer literacy are also required, as well as a willingness to learn new computer packages.

Excellent communication skills are also essential, as the job requires frequent liaisons with the courts, Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and other police staff.
