Based in the city
This role is a varied role working on the Local Policing Unit (LPU) to support the LPU in the areas of crime prevention and community involvement.
Tasks may include packaging and distributing crime prevention literature; offering crime prevention advice to residents e.g. use of smart water, prikka strips on fences and other target hardening measures. They may also undertake low level crime prevention audits of vulnerable motor vehicles, premises, houses.
They may undertake initiatives like establishing no cold calling zones, or staff crime prevention stalls at local events like a village fete.
This role is frequently undertaken as part of a team of volunteers
Skills/Qualifications:
- To have good communication skills
- To be able to work as part of a team
- To retrieve and gather factual information and to record that information accurately
- To be able to undertake tasks in an environment where confidentiality is important
- To enjoy talking to people
- To be able to stand for reasonable periods of time whilst working at events
When can you volunteer? This role is very flexible with opportunities at the weekend as well as during the week. Some events do last all day e.g. crime prevention activity at a Donington Park race meeting.
Where? Opportunities exist on all LPUs in the City area. The post is managed by the Deputy LPU Commander.

10 x PSV Programme - Support Officers (LPU)
Based at the following Local Police Stations: Market Harborough, Coalville and Hinckley
This position is intended to provide support to the PSV Programme at the LPU level. It provides the link between the LPU Commander and Deputy and the volunteers.
It will undertake a variety of tasks that support both the volunteers and the commanders.
Skills Required:
- Good communication skills
- Previous experience of team leadership is necessary or ability to evidence team leadership skills
- Ability to work as part of a team

CCTV Operator
Location: Melton Mowbray police station
Working at Melton Mowbray station, a number of volunteers are required:
- To monitor a minimum of eight CCTV screens and take appropriate action as required;
- To maintain a tape catalogue;
- To dispose of tapes in accordance with Force Policy;
- To write statements to accompany tapes to be used as Court exhibits;
- To maintain a record of faults reported within the CCTV system.
There may be a requirement to attend Court to give evidence relating to CCTV monitoring.

Police Support Volunteers
Police Support Volunteers assist police officers, staff and other volunteers to address policing issues that matter most to people locally. They bring a wide range of skills and experience from all sorts of backgrounds.
They join the volunteering programme for many reasons – but they all have one thing in common - they want to help the Constabulary in making life better for communities in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Volunteers undertake various unpaid roles such as monitoring CCTV footage, delivering crime reduction advice and providing administrative support to Neighbourhood officers. There are many different opportunities to volunteer in both the City and County and new roles are constantly being identified where volunteers can assist police officers and staff.
Don’t worry if you do not have any formal qualifications, we are more interested in your ability to communicate effectively with a wide cross section of people and your commitment and enthusiasm to work in an environment where confidentiality, honesty and integrity are important.
We would also need you to meet our security vetting and eligibility criteria and be able to work as part of a team, with minimum supervision if required.
