Special branch

Countering the threat from terrorism originating from within or outside the United Kingdom is the most important single function of Special Branch.

Together with the Force Counter Terrorism Security Advisor (CTSA), the Unit has an important role to play in developing clear counter terrorist strategy for the Force to understand and put into practice.

Application of the strategy, combined with the successful targeting of individuals and the efficient use of intelligence, can make a significant contribution to the fight against terrorism in both a preventative and post incident investigative role.
