Contingency Planning

The Contingency Planning Section is made-up of a small team of police officers and police staff and is based at Force Headquarters, Enderby.

The main aim of the section is to prepare and maintain emergency management procedures for Leicestershire Constabulary in the event of a major incident or disaster.

As well as developing contingency plans to deal with every eventuality, the section is also responsible for organising exercises to test procedures that would be put into place during a major incident such as setting up a casualty bureau and body recovery management.

The section is also responsible for developing and maintaining multi-agency contacts and has helped to develop the Local Resilience Forum. The forum, which is chaired by the Chief Constable of Leicestershire Constabulary, was created in accordance with the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. It brings together partner agencies such as fire, ambulance, health and local authorities and is responsible for overseeing the work of all agencies in meeting their responsibilities under the Act.

There is an extensive network of working groups that members of the section attend. The meetings are to ensure that duties under the Act are fulfilled. This includes formulating and producing emergency plans for the LRF's area and putting in to place arrangements to warn and inform the public.
