LPU Commander's Report
22nd February 2011, Insp Chris Brown
BURGLARY
2011 has started with a great deal of work being completed around prevention of burglary dwellings. We have had really good figures up until now with a reduction peaking at 19%. This has recently declined due to a surge in burglaries over 1 week, but we are now back on track to achieve a reduction in excess of 10%. We are working hard to try to obtain a 15% reduction as this would mean there are less victims of this personal crime.
VEHICLE CRIME
Good news again, we are maintaining a reduction in excess of 20%. We did see some evidence of people defrosting their vehicles, leaving them unattended but with Spring fast approaching I hope to see a reduction in this type of crime.
ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR
I hope you have all seen the changes that the government would like to introduce in this large area of business. On North West we are still maintaining 20% reduction in reports. I am very conscious though that if you are experiencing anti-social behaviour, that reduction is of no help to you. Over the last 2 months I along with my staff have been re-examining what additional work we could do to reduce those figures even further. It is important to remember that we are a community, all with different views and it appears that we forget that the impact of what we are doing can upset others if we are not careful.
THIS MONTH
There wass a Joint Action Group (JAG) meeting on Friday 18th February 2011, where the partnership reviewed its processes for joint working on anti-social behaviour.
I have some meetings with the district council regarding general partnership working and assisting in setting the strategy for the next 3 years.
I have a number of well organised multi-agency meetings regarding the Download Festival at Donington. There is a great deal of planning that goes into this event to ensure prosperity for the local people and businesses whilst keeping disruption to a minimum.
CRIME MAPPING
I hope you have seen the new crime mapping launched by the Home Office, which can show you where our local crime and anti-social behaviour is being committed. By using the link on the website you are able to add your post code and see crime within 1 mile of your home or business. Please spend some time comparing this with other areas in the county or in fact different counties. I hope you will feel reassured by the figures.
