Welcome to Loughborough local policing unit
Loughborough is the principal town of the borough of Charnwood and is growing rapidly with many new retail premises and houses being built. The town has a population of around 57,000 however this increases by around 20,000 to 25,000 during term time due to the student population attending Loughborough University, taking the population up to just over 70,000.
Loughborough LPU has healthy partnership arrangements and works with a variety of groups and organisations in order to reduce the crime and the fear of crime. Among the issues being targeted by Loughborough local policing unit are violent crime, burglary, vehicle crime and the supply of Class A drugs. In order to improve performance in these areas specific attention is given to officer deployment and the use of intelligence.
From January 2007, Loughborough local policing unit was expanded to cover Shepshed and Hathern as well as the market town of Loughborough.
