Hello again everybody.

As the holiday season progresses things remain good for us here at Loughborough Police Station. Every month I have a meeting with my Superintendent to discuss performance in the areas of crime reduction and detection, public confidence and ongoing community issues. I have to say I was quite looking forward to last weeks meeting as I was able to report that all reduction and detection rates were ahead of target except for  Theft from Motor Vehicle. In this area we are slightly above where we need to be and I will reiterate my appeal to the residents of the Loughborough Shepshed and Hathern area not to leave anything of value on display in their cars at any time.

My officers have never done more in relentlessly pursuing local offenders. Unfortunately it appears to be the same names we are dealing with time and time again but please remember we are not the only agency at work in this area. You will have heard in the news about prison populations/sentencing policy/rehabilitation of offenders etc. With all these issues very much at the fore currently you can rest assured that your local police will be bringing persistent offenders into our custody facility at every possible opportunity.

Insp Tim McCabe 1st July 2010 1st July 2010, Insp Tim McCabe

Hello everbody,

For over a month now the Loughborough, Shepshed and Hathern areas have seen a significant reduction in burglary (dwelling). To say I am pleased would be an understatement! f you have been following my update over previous months you will know the importance I attach to the "relentless pursuit" of our persistant offenders - this, together with the great work of the Local authority Community Safety Team and Charnwood Neighbourhood Housing has caused this decrease (a 6-10 year prison sentence to repeat burglars could impact on it further!) With the vast majority of acquisitive crime in the Loughborough area being committed to fund an out of control drugs habit, our persistant offenders with such a habit need to get their "fix" from somewhere. This has led to a slight rise in vehicle crime over the area. This can range from theft of a vehicle, the smash and grab of a sat nav to theft of dust caps or a number plate. Our burglars are often our car theives too so the disruption/inconveniencing of those who blight our community is still my number one priority.

What happens at court? What do modern sentances look like? This month I am pleased to be able to share some of the local Magistrates Court results with you.....

Have you been to the public gallery of a court recently? I was talking to an usher the other day who told me that nowhere near the number of people visit who used to several years ago. With contraversial sentencing and differing opinions on how to rehabilitate offenders featuring in the headlines every day perhaps more members of the public should visit courts more often? I would be interested to know your views.
