16th April 2009, Insp Tim McCabe
Hello and welcome to my second instalment in respect of how things are progressing at Loughborough, Shepshed and the surrounding villages.
All of my officers have been working hard, with their partners, to ensure that this area is a safe and enjoyable place to live. We have had some great successes and closed our performance year with a...
- -12.5% reduction in burglary dwelling
- -12% reduction in theft of motor vehicle
- -10% reduction in theft from motor vehicle
And an overall satisfaction rating of 83%.
Hastings Ward
This location continues to be a priority for myself and my team. I have ensured that resources in this locality have been increased and are targeted at known criminals. You will see from the figures that burglary is above average; the trend however, is downwards. This ward is now showing a 16.2% reduction in this offence and work will be ongoing to maintain our successes.
Hastings has also seen an increase in robbery, which in real terms equates to 7 offences. I fully appreciate the impact of this offence on the individual and as a station we have seen a large reduction in robberies.
As in my previous report, this ward also suffers from a relatively high level of violent and ASB related offences. This is partly made up of increased reporting of domestic related offences. The fact that victims of this horrendous crime now have the confidence to come forward is pleasing, and I will do all that is necessary to support them and bring the offenders to justice.
Southfields Ward
This location is mostly made up of Loughborough Town Centre. As described in my last input there are many licensed bars and restaurants in this vicinity which can unfortunately often lead to alcohol fuelled trouble. However, when one considers how many visitors the town attracts, then the disorder is relatively small and the bars and the clubs are still a safe and fun night out. I will keep you updated on the initiatives I intend to run in the town centre aimed at targeting the individuals who wish to cause trouble.
Lemyngton Ward
This ward has seen an above average recording of vehicle crime. Upon closer inspection the figures are actually showing a downward trend of -11.1%. This is largely due to the focus I have placed on directing both high visibility and covert officers to this location. We have seen some excellent arrests and a number of our criminals have received jail sentences.
Nanpantan Ward
This location is a safe and pleasant ward in which to live. It has a relatively low level of crime but on this occasion has shown an increase in the amount of reported robberies. Please do not be alarmed by this because on closer inspection there have only been two reported crimes. Both offences I take seriously, but I'm sure you would agree, it is still a low number.
Storer Ward
This ward has seen an increase in the number of reported burglaries. The area is made up of many off-campus student houses. Unfortunately, many of the students enjoy a good night out and forget to secure their properties. This makes in extremely easy for criminals to commit this offence. I am working really hard with my team to increase the awareness of residents to lock it up or lose it. In fact, 108 offences of burglary (since Sept 08) have taken place at properties where either a door or a window has been left open. However, as stated at the beginning of this update, Burglary (Dwelling) overall is down -12.5% one of the best performances within the county of Leicestershire.
In conclusion, please be assured that I am committed to making our communities a safer place to live. I will relentlessly pursue our criminals to bring them to justice and seek your support in doing this. If you have any information to assist please call Crimestoppers on: 0800 555 111
Many Thanks
Insp. Tim McCabe
