How to contact your neighbourhood policing team and who they are

Neighbourhood Sergeant

  • Richard Whileman Sgt Richard Whileman (715) I have been with Leicestershire Constabulary for thirteen years and during that time I have worked at Melton Mowbray, Keyham Lane and North West Leicestershire as a response and beat officer. In 2002 I transferred to the Armed Response Department and whilst there I received further training to perform a number of other armed roles. In 2004 I was promoted to sergeant in the Tactical Firearms Unit.

In January 2009 I left the firearms department to become a response sergeant based at Loughborough. In February 2010 I was selected to become the Melton Mowbray Neighbourhood Management Sergeant.

Neighbourhood policing will be a new challenge for me which I am keen to embrace. This is also a new role for Melton and it gives me the opportunity to build on the excellent work already carried out by our neighbourhood teams. I will be responsible for managing your beat officers and Police Community Support Officers to ensure Neighbourhood policing continues to maintain its high standard in Melton.
  • PC Darryl Cunnington PC Darryl Cunnington (246) PC Darryl Cunnington joined Leicestershire Constabulary in 1984 after ten years as a Marine Engineer. After completing his two years probation at Melton Mowbray he worked at Charles Street police station in Leicester.

After a short spell at Oakham police station, he returned to Melton in 1989. He has worked as a rural beat officer, in the Traffic department and as a response driver with a particular interest in vehicle crime and the examination of stolen vehicles.

PC Cunnington joined the Belvoir neighbourhood beat team in November 2005. He lives in the Vale and knows the area well. Having a keen interest in countryside law he is pleased to be given the opportunity to work the rural area in which he lives.

"Forming a network of contacts is one of my priorities so that we can best understand the concerns of the community and keep people informed as to what we are doing."
  • PC Mark Longden PC Mark Longden (210) PC Mark Longden joined Leicestershire Constabulary in 1988 and spent several years working in Leicester City centre before specialising in several different departments at Force headquarters.

In 1998 he moved to Melton LPU and took over responsibility for beat officer policing in 17 villages situated around the village of Somerby on the south side of Melton before moving to the Belvoir Neighbourhood.

"Maintaining a sustained visible police presence is my main focus, which in turn will allow me to address the local issues of the villagers. Their concerns will be high on my agenda along with the reduction of crime and public reassurance."
  • PCSO Claire Gilbert PCSO Claire Gilbert (6541) I joined Leicestershire Constabulary in September 2009 and started my initial training at De Montfort University and Force Headquarters. I came to Melton Police Station in November 2009 and joined the beat team at Bottesford covering the north of the Melton Borough.

Since my initial training I worked for a short period on the Town Centre Beat. I have for the past few months been a part of the Melton Town South beat team along with PC Chris Perry and PCSO Ed Marsh. This has helped to broaden my experience and knowledge.

Since the middle of May 2010 I have rejoined the beat team at Bottesford. I have enjoyed being out on patrol in the neighbourhood and addressing local issues and concerns. I feel very welcomed by the community and local businesses. In the future I aim to keep on tackling anti-social behaviour and to reduce the fear of crime.
  • PCSO Robert Wood PCSO Robert Wood (6622) "I have been a PCSO with Leicestershire Constabulary since early 2005. As an ex-officer, I have found the role to be both rewarding and challenging. Having spent time working the town centre beat at Oakham, I applied for a move to Melton Mowbray where I have been working the town centre beat since March 2006. This has proved to be a very rewarding period, and I now move to Bottesford in January 2008 where I shall join up with an exceptional team who are dedicated to one of the largest beats in our area of responsibility.

"With 38 villages and an area measuring about 120 square miles to police, I am certainly going to be kept busy!"
  • 6187 Stuart Hallam PCSO Stuart Hallam (6187) "I have been a PCSO since February 09 and have recently joined the beat team at Bottesford on beat N44 (Melton Rural North). I am very excited to start my role as a PCSO on this beat, I feel it will be a great challenge for me and I am looking forward to getting to know my beat and the community inside the numerous villages. The other members of the beat team have a vast amount of knowledge of the villages and I am eager to learn about one of the largest beats in the county.

I started work on Melton Town South in the Autumn of 2009 and am enjoying making contacts with local schools and the community"
