12th June 2009, Insp Johnny Monks
Hello,
My name is Johnny Monks and I am your local police Inspector. I am going to make a promise to report directly to you each month, giving you an update on local issues, police news and putting some context on crime trends in the area you live.
Burglaries have been reduced by 24 percent in the last twelve months. This is a truly excellent result.
In the last three months we have had an increase in burglaries in Greetham. There have been three burglaries: one per month in this village on the 2nd April 2 May and the 3rd June. My Officers are trying to find a pattern of behavior of someone visiting the area at the beginning of each month. If the residents of Greetham have any information please contact one of my beat Officers. The three burglaries have been via insecure doors and windows. Please be confident that your property is not vulnerable, lock all doors and windows even if you are in your garden.
Ryhall has had an increase in burglaries; I have therefore written a Burglary reduction strategy for Ryhall which includes my officers and I linking in with Lincolnshire police and running cross border police operations. I am pleased to report that this has worked well and in the last 90 days there have only been two dwelling burglaries in Ryhall.
As home or business premises owners you are the best people to know if your premises are vulnerable, consider strengthening your security with crime prevention aids. Any of my beat team officers will give free crime prevention advice to all interested parties.
Lastly on burglaries Whissendine is showing a 100% increase in burglaries. This is one shed that has unfortunately been broken into. The 100% increase is from zero to one. Whissendine had no burglaries at all in 2008 during the same three month period.
Anti Social Behavior (ASB)
Most wards show a decrease or no reports of ASB; I am optimistic that in partnership with Rutland Safer Partnership will we effectively problem solve to reduce crime and ASB across Rutland during 2009.
Robberies
It gives me great pride to report that there has not been a single street robbery in over fifteen months since March 2008. This is great news and evidences the fact that the streets of Rutland are truly safe place to live and work.
Community/Police News
We have had the Home coming Parade of the Royal Artillery Regiment in Oakham on the 11 June 2009. This was a very well attended parade and church service. It was a marvelous display from the Royal Anglian Military Band and troops marching around Oakham.
We also policed the Rutland Show which despite having rain pour down most of the morning had a good turn out from local Rutland folk and people from all over the country. I had the added pleasure of meeting and speaking to HRH the Duke of Gloucester, even though I was dripping wet.
I am pleased to announce the arrival of four additional police Officers to Rutland, two student Officers will be permanently stationed here. I have also managed to loan an additional two officers from Melton and Charnwood until September. The two student officers started with us in May and are currently under going tutoring and will be fully operation on independent duties in August.
If you see vehicles or persons that arouse your suspicions please ring the Police. The more information you can give us the better equipped our officers will be to investigate your suspicions. Leicestershire Constabulary telephone number is 01162 222222.
If you wish to meet your Neighborhood Policing Team then please feel free to drop into any of the surgeries which are regularly held. You can find the details above by clicking on the "Meet Us" tab.
