Charnwood local policing unit

Welcome to Charnwood local policing unit

Charnwood local policing unit (LPU) covers a large area in excess of 120 square kilometres, comprising both rural and urban communities with a population well over 80,000. The LPU is divided into 6 neighbourhood beats, each with a designated beat team. The LPU is based at Syston Police Station with a number of Neighbourhood Offices located within the communities they serve.

There are a large number of beauty spots in the area including Bradgate Park and Beacon Hill, which attract a significant number of visitors throughout the year. Officers work closely with the wardens to deter criminals. The LPU also covers a substantial part of the Watermead Countryside Park.

The main priority of the LPU is the reduction of crime (particularly violent and serious acquisitive crime such as Burglary, Vehicle Crime and Robbery) and anti-social behaviour (ASB). We work closely with local organisations and partnership agencies to achieve this. Targeting offenders and locations (via overt and covert policing tactics) and the use of timely intelligence are the primary methods used to achieve reductions in crime and ASB.
