BCU commander - C/Supt. Chris Thomas

C/Supt. Chris Thomas
Chief Superintendent Chris Thomas is the Commander for the Counties Basic Command Unit (BCU) which covers nine local policing areas across Leicestershire and Rutland.
He took command of the Counties BCU in March 2010 and is responsible for the policing of two counties (Leicestershire and Rutland) which covers the eight local authority areas of Charnwood Borough Council, North West Leicestershire District Council, Rutland County Council, Melton Borough Council, Oadby and Wigston District Council, Harborough District Council, Blaby District Council and Hinckley and Bosworth District Council.
It is a large area with an excellent team of officers and police staff who have a strong sense of service excellence and a strong commitment to neighbourhood policing.
Chief Superintendent Thomas said “My priorities are focused on what you tell us you want us to tackle through our community consultation. Our neighbourhood policing teams are embedded in the heart of their neighbourhoods and we are working very closely with a range of partners to tackle crime and the problems that matter most to local communities. Providing a high quality service that enhances the public’s confidence in Leicestershire Constabulary is also very important to me and we will strive to ensure our satisfaction rates continue to rise.
“I am pleased to report that the number of crimes across the Counties’ BCU over the last year as fallen by 12% which is 5000 less victims of crime and the number of incidents involving anti-social behaviour have also fallen by 20% - all of which is very good news. If you are a victim of anti-social behaviour then please don’t hesitate to call us because we can’t help if we don’t know it is happening.
“In fact, crime fell significantly on all nine of the Counties LPUs in the last 12 months which is an indication that people causing us the most problems have been accurately identified and targeted. However, we are not complacent and know that it will be a real challenge to improve on these reductions in the coming year but I can reassure residents that we will continue to work hard to prevent and detect crime and offer a good service.”
