Insp Jon Brown August Crime Update 17th August 2010, Insp Jon Brown

Hello and I hope this update finds you all well and enjoying what little of a summer we have had?

I have had a visit to the LPU (local policing unit) by the new Assistant Chief Constable Steph Morgan and was able to show what a great relationship there is between us at the LPU, our partner agencies and most importantly you. This was reflected in a presentation that was made by the Croft branch of the Royal British Legion for recognition of the work carried at the station in support of them.

I took the opportunity last weekend of a gap in my diary to join officers from the LPU out on anti-social behaviour patrols across the district. It was reassuring to actually see the fine work that is done to challenge anti-social behaviour by my officers and how they link in with partners such as Blaby District Council to find long term solutions to issues raised. It also gave me an opportunity to escort some youths out of the district who whilst visiting decided to make a nuisance of themselves in Blaby town centre.

I have also looked at the crime mapping data that is available on the Leicestershire Constabulary website and what the actual figures look like:

Burglary - I have looked at the three wards highlighted in the data and two of them (Muxloe Ward and Cosby and South Whetstone Ward) have actually seen a reduction in reported burglaries. Saxondale Ward does reflect an increase in reports on this same three month time period last year. However, as I have stated previously, burglary remains an LPU priority and officers from the LPU continue to target offenders.

Vehicle Crime - Across the district as a whole we are seeing an increase in reported vehicle crime and unfortunately this appears to be largely due to people leaving vehicles insecure and opportunist criminals making the most of it. This is not only distressing for the victim but leaves us with limited lines of enquiry. Officers at Blaby are aware of this and when they find an insecure vehicle they will attempt to locate and inform the owner but can I ask that you lock your own vehicles and if you notice a neighbour has forgotten to lock theirs, let them know.

Anti-social behaviour (ASB) - The ward which shows an increase in reports is Enderby and St Johns Ward which has an increase of 21 actual reports. In conjuncture with the Community Safety Team at Blaby District Council we challenge ASB whenever we encounter it. We appreciate fully how distressing it is to the individual and community who suffer from ASB and as that whenever you feel your quality of life is being affected that you call us and allow us the chance to stop it.

If you would like to discuss anything from this update or anything else that's affecting you that you feel I can help with please contact me on the details below.

Kindest regards
