March crime update
11th March 2010, Insp Jon Brown
It has been a busy time for us all at Blaby Local Policing Unit with further arrests in relation to burglaries across the area. These individuals have been charged with offences and sent to appear before the court and are also being investigated for further offences.
There has been some great collaborative work with members of the public who through being extremely vigilant have passed information that has lead to the identification of premises being used as cannabis factories. This has helped with the arrest and charging of persons involved in the cultivation of cannabis.
The anti social behaviour patrols continue to be sent out from Blaby Local Policing Unit and we are sending extra patrols to the Narborough and Countesthorpe areas this weekend. These patrols will be in collaboration with partners from Blaby District Council and Street Pastors. The extra patrols are in response to concerns from local residents and are a sign of how seriously we view anti social behaviour at Leicestershire Constabulary. If you have any concerns relating to issues of crime or anti social behaviour that you contact us Blaby Local Policing Unit.
Burglary - There have been increases in the number of recorded burglaries for the wards of Croft Hill, North Whetstone and Ravenhurst Ward. The percentage increases shown on the crime mapping data does not I feel accurately represent in real terms the work that is currently being done and in relation to tackling burglary. There has actually been a steady decrease in reported burglaries across the LPU and we will continue to work hard at reducing the number even further as we fully appreciate and understand what a distressing crime this is to the victim.
Robbery - Ellis Ward, Enderby St Johns Ward and Forest Ward are all shown as having increases in the numbers of reported robberies. Enquires are still ongoing in relation to these reports and arrests have been made.
Vehicle Crime - There has been a rise in vehicle crime in Croft Hill, Blaby South, Narborough and Littlethorpe and Normanton Ward. Again the actual figures are relatively low in context of the percentage increases.
ASB - We will continue to focus upon Anti Social Behaviour patrols on a Friday and Saturday night and target identified areas that are subject to anti social behaviour. The LPU has co-located an officer to work at Blaby District Council Community Safety Team to increase the already strong links the LPU has with its partners.
