13th August 2009, Insp Jon Brown
It has been another busy month at Blaby Local Policing Unit. We have had some more good arrests for identified suspects. We have traced and arrested a male who has been avoiding the courts for 12 months; this was in no small amount due to the help of members of the public after we published his face and name in the Leicester Mercury, so thank you. And we have commenced our Summer Safety Campaign. This campaign we will include looking at the car cruises at Asda Fosse Park, identifying area of anti social behaviour and working with Blaby District Council colleagues to deal with the associated issues.
The south area is also starting a pilot scheme for Smart Water. Smart Water is a commercial product which can be used to mark property of value and which will show up when an ultraviolet light is shone onto the item. It will also transfer onto anybody who has contact with the property and so help to identify suspects. If you'd like to know more about Smart Water or are interested in buying some then please drop into Blaby front enquiry office and speak to Jon Gower who will be only to happy to help you.
Now for the comments in relation to the crime mapping data which was published on 17th July.
Burglary - This continues to be a priority for us here at Blaby and continues to form the basis for the work that we do. Winstanley ward is shown as being high in relation to the number of reports for burglaries, however again we believe we have identified 2 suspects for the majority of these offences and since their arrest the numbers we are now monitoring appears to be reducing.
Vehicle crime - I note that there are above average numbers of reports for vehicle crime in both Ellis and Winstanley ward. Whilst we as the police are making every effort to arrest and deal with the offenders, can I please take this opportunity to remind everyone not to leave their valuable on display in the vehicles and to ensure that they lock them when the leave them unattended. For our part the police have a proactive operation running at the moment which will look at suspected individuals and vulnerable areas.
ASB - Again Winstanley ward feature as having a high level of reports. In other areas of the LPU we have had a designated Friday and Saturday evening patrol to target reports of anti social behaviour. This patrol will be directed toward Winstanley Ward and hopefully next month we'll see a positive effect.
On a positive note there are no areas which show above average reports for violent crime and the neighbourhood teams that cover each ward continue to work hard dealing with the issues that matter to you. As such please continue to contact us and let us know what is happening and what we can do to help.
