Crime reduction update and ongoing refurbishment
28th July 2011, Insp Jed Keen
Continuing from lasts year's exceptional reductions in overall crime, we are again seeing further reductions during this performance year. This equates to 67 less victims of crime, including Burglary showing a 5% reduction and theft from motor vehicle showing a 31% reduction. With the continued support from the community and our partners, I am confident we will see this as a trend for the rest of the year. As you may have seen or heard, the once architecturally acclaimed Police Station on Bull Head Street is undergoing extensive refurbishment. Part of this refurbishment is to remove the three-storey building, involving the closure of the front enquiry office for safety reasons. During this time, Welford Road Police Station has extended its opening times to provide the front enquiry function of both stations. 24-hour response and neighbourhood policing for Oadby and Wigston will not be affected and will still be maintained from Bull Head Street. I will update you when we have any dates for the re-instatement of the front enquiry office. Should you have any concerns or questions about the refurbishment, or any other issue, please feel free to contact a member of your neighbourhood team.
