LPU commander - Acting Inspector Nick Timms

I am very pleased to have been given the opportunity of becoming temporary Commander at the Wigston Local Policing Unit (LPU). My predecessor, Inspector Jed Keen has recently been asked to assist with a force wide project developing our neighbourhood policing structure.

This appointment presents me with an excellent opportunity to manage the LPU and, with continued assistance from our partner agencies, ensure that we maintain and increase links with communities and neighbourhoods to help us all reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and protect the vulnerable.

We continue to target those who choose to commit crime against us. The team at Wigston are using all available methods to identify and bring to justice those that break the law. We are currently running ‘Operation Ocean’ which is helping to maintain a significant reduction in burglary offences compared to the same period last year.

I’m sure most of you who pass the police station will have noticed that there’s some major demolition work taking place at the moment. The removal of the large supported tower at the front of the building will certainly change the Wigston skyline forever.

During the work we continue to provide a response and neighbourhood policing service from the refurbished rear section of the site. Our front enquiry office provision is currently provided from our Welford Road site.

Within the next few months the work will be complete and I look forward to the grand re-opening of our own front office.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people that live or work in, or visit our area for their continued support.

T/Inspector Nick Timms
