I am delighted to have been appointed to lead the North and South’s basic command units.  I have worked on the South a number of times during my 26 years with Leicestershire Constabulary, and I am looking forward to working again with the different communities here.

My aim is to make sure we address your priorities. I have told my officers and staff that it is vital that we respond to issues that members of the public feel are important to them, not ones we think they should be concerned about. We carry out regular consultation in each beat or neighbourhood area so we can set local priorities, and you can help by completing one of our questionnaires:

I will be asking my team to ensure that they concentrate efforts on repeat offenders, who are responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime. Similarly, I want to ensure we take the necessary steps to protect repeat victims of crime and anti-social behaviour.

I can only do this by working through managers, and particularly the four Inspectors who are the local policing unit commanders for Blaby, Harborough, Hinckley and Bosworth, and Oadby and Wigston. I will ensure they fully understand the crime and anti-social behaviour in their area, and that they take the maximum effort to drive down levels to their absolute minimum.

The public’s backing is vital in what we do, and I would ask you to do what you can to support us, whether that is reporting an incident, agreeing to be a witness, or volunteering for either Neighbourhood Watch or ourselves. Together, we can make our communities stronger and safer.
