Local priorities and action taken
Our priorities for Winter - Summer 2012
Consultation with the community has identified the following priorities that we will be concentrating on over the coming months.
- Reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour including litter, minor arson offences and youths congregating being noisy and intimidating, causing residents distress and anxiety at the shops in Gamel Road, Leicester between 3pm and midnight daily.
- Parents of pupils attending Linden primary school, Headland Road, Evington, Leicester are dropping off / collecting their children on a daily basis via car and in the process committing road traffic offences. This in turn is placing the children and the public at large at great risk of personnal injury or fatality.

Your local officers have done the following:
1. drawn on other resources across the organisation - Response crews and officers from the Tactical Support Group to radically increase active police patrols in this area. This has reduced the street presence of those likely to commit anti-social behaviour.
2. identified that fencing was needed on Gamel Walk to make boundaries clear and protect residents’ privacy, and by working with the council your councillors have agreed to pay for this from the ward budget.
3. spoken to leaders at the mosque and when their building is complete they will explore what they can provide in the way of youth diversionary activities.
4. liaised with schools in the area and ensured that key messages go out to pupils around citizenship and respecting others
5. passed information to Youth Services so consideration can be given to providing outreach provision in this area.
6. passed information to the environmental health dept to ensure consideration was given to examining standards in commercial outlets in the area.
7. used other methods to disrupt and disconcert those who may commit offences.
The result is that we have had only one crime reported in this area in the period covered by this focussed work.
We did however receive several calls from members of the community reporting incidents. These were subsequently attended or processed for information gathering. This reflects the growing positive relations between the local team and the community.
This priority is now closed.

This is a clear local problem that is reflected across the whole city and country.
PC 1878 Evans has initiated this PSP, which I support as it serves as a means of managing the strands of activity to reduce offending and make the location safer for children made vulnerable by perpetrators, who are mainly local people.
We have 3 strands: - medium profile patrols to collect intel on details of offenders; enforcement with colleagues from LCC, and the pupils doing projects to raise parental awareness. I would like to see a non-bureaucratic but effective way of the intel from 'Patrols' being used in the subsequent operation, so we are targeting the right people.
Consideration too to a Communication / Propaganda strand through which we use the police Communications office, local media, KINS etc.
