The last two weeks were occupied by preparations for the English Defence League and Unite Against Fascism protest marches in the city on 4th February.  Understandably communities were anxious about the impact of these events and my team were involved in a number of community briefings and consultations events as well as school visits.

Increased patrolling was conducted in vulnerable areas and thankfully the day passed without significant disorder.  I would like to pass on my thanks to the community mediators who worked with our Neighbourhood Policing Teams and to the many residents who offered us hot food and drinks on what must have been one of the coldest days of the year.

PC Parmar who was engaged in reassurance patrols was so moved by the hospitality of the community that she has asked me to formally thank the individuals involved

It is now very much back to business as normal and I am pleased with the progress we have made with reducing domestic burglaries. Currently we have recorded 35 offences less than last year equating to a 10% decrease.  As always I would remind householders to be vigilant, you would be amazed to know how many burglars get in through an unlocked window or door.  Favourite property to be stolen, remains electrical items and Asian jewellery. You can register the former via www.immobilise.com and you may wish to consider placing jewellery in a secure storage.

On a happier note I would like to share recent comment from resident

I would just like to say how amazing, friendly and helpful the Evington Team are. I know you all can get a tough time, but the work you all do is much appreciated by most!"

New Year's Messagehttp://www.leics.police.uk/policing/8_city_bcu/19_spinney_hill_park/blog/2011-12/#p1026

I would like to round off the year by summarising the some of the achievements and challenges faced by your team of officers at Spinney Hill. Overall crime is modestly down by 2% but within that figure are more impressive reductions.  Offences of domestic burglary and violence against the person are both down by 7%.  Racially aggravated offences have are also down by 14%. As with all statistics there are ups and down and one of the challenges facing us next year will be to reduce the increase of 50% in street robberies. As well as targeting offenders we will work with schools and colleges to increase awareness of this offence as many of our victims are school pupils.

In response to residents concerns over drug dealing we continue to run Operation Lake targeting dealers and users alike. We have arrested seven people since November for possession with intent supply. One male has been remanded in custody whilst the rest remain on bail. We have also obtained a "Crack House" closure for an address on Abingdon Road.  The occupants, who were causing misery to local residents, have been evicted.   We will continue to take positive action against those people who cause harm to communities through the supply of drugs.  Intelligence is the lifeblood of these operations and I would urge residents to contact us in confidence and tell us your concerns. Alternatively call CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.

Congratulations to Ben Broad who has won Community Support Officer of the year. Well deserved and Ben received fantastic backing from the community on Coleman ward, so thanks to those who came forward to nominate him. Also our team of Special Constables have been in the lime light, winning the Saville trophy for their support to regular colleagues during the August disorder.  It is worth noting that the team have contributed over 3700 hours of their own time this year to the community - all for free!

Finally I would like to wish all residents a Happy and Safe New Year

Upper Tichborne Street Policing Operationhttp://www.leics.police.uk/policing/8_city_bcu/19_spinney_hill_park/blog/2011-09/#p999In response to local concerns about drug dealing in and around Upper Tichbourne Street we increased overnight patrolling over the summer. Officers  were out on foot, both in uniform and in plain clothes. As a result we have arrested a number of people for drugs offences and I will keep you updated on progress of  these investigations.

Two officers PC 769 Dave Barber and PC 4419 Leslie Marriott remain dedicated to this operation. With partners they will work to evict convicted drug dealers from properties and consider the use of Anti Social Behaviour legislation to ban offenders from areas

PCs Barber and Marriott recently took part in a patchwalk with councillors from the area. They are currently working on environmental improvements to make the area safer
