A former Leicestershire police constable would have been dismissed without notice, had he still been serving, an accelerated gross misconduct hearing has found.
In October 2023, while a serving police officer, former PC Raja Khan reported sick when he had gone on holiday to Turkey.
While on holiday, former PC Khan also provided a person known to him, who was not a serving officer or police staff member, with access to his police laptop and instructed him to send an e-mail and/or complete a sickness form on his behalf.
The hearing found the officer’s actions breached standards of professional behaviour namely discreditable conduct, confidentiality, honesty and integrity, and orders and instruction – and that this amounted to gross misconduct.
The former officer resigned from the force prior to the hearing being held.
Chief Constable Rob Nixon said: “While former PC Khan has admitted and apologised for his actions, this gross misconduct severely undermines the standards and reputation of the police service. Former PC Khan deliberately misled the force and his colleagues and also compromised the security of information on police systems.
“Honesty and integrity is fundamental in policing and I therefore determined the outcome of dismissal without notice, had former PC Khan still been serving. I have also indicated for the former officer’s details to be included on the Police Barred List.”
