The Force receives applications from many sources to carry out research. These sources include: students, academic bodies, journalists, police officers and police staff. The latter from this and other forces. Leicestershire Police also commissions its own research, both internally and externally.

The aim of this policy and supporting procedure is to ensure authorisation is considered to designate a ‘Protected Person’ where there is in existence a real and immediate threat to the life of an individual by the criminal acts of a third party where Human Rights under article 2 are engaged.
