Officers are appealing for information following a burglary at a church in Breedon on the Hill near Ashby.
The incident is believed to have happened sometime between 6.20pm on 7 August and 9am on 8 August at the building in Melbourne Lane.
Significant damage was caused to the doors of the church as well as a metal gate to gain entry. It is not believed anything has been stolen at this stage.
No-one was at the church at the time of the incident and no injuries have been reported.
Enquiries are ongoing into the incident.
Sergeant Lindsay Booth said: “This attack on an old and valued building is devastating for the community and we are carrying out enquiries to find the people responsible.
“This includes officers speaking to people in the area and working on CCTV enquiries.
“We urge anyone who has any information to make contact with us. If you have CCTV from around the area please check this to see if you have any information which could help.”
