Victim of serious assault in Braunstone Gate dies

A man who was seriously assaulted in the city centre on Friday evening (27 August) has since died.
Officers were called to Braunstone Gate, just outside Natterjacks, around 10.30pm after the 49-year-old victim was found unconscious in the street.
He was taken to hospital with serious head injuries and died on Monday evening (30 August).
At the weekend a 27-year-old Leicester man was arrested on suspicion of Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) and released on bail. Today (Wednesday 1 September) he was re-arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Detective Inspector Kenny Henry from East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: “Our enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
“We know it was a busy evening and there were a number of people in the area at the time. We urge anyone who hasn’t yet spoken to officers to get in touch if they witnessed the incident or know anything about the circumstances leading up to it.
“We would urge any taxi or delivery drivers who may have been in the area to get in touch if they recorded any footage on their recording equipment. Also, if you or anyone you know has any footage captured on their telephone we need to speak to you.”
