Between 9.45pm and 10pm on Thursday 2 December he was walking through Nelson Mandela Park when he was approached by three men.
The group threatened the victim, who is in his 20s, ordering him to hand over his Rolex watch.
They then left the park with it. No arrests have been made at this time.
Detective Constable Dan Thorpe, the investigating officer, said: “I’d like to speak to anyone seen it listed for sale in suspicious circumstances, or has directly been offered the opportunity to buy it.
“You may have information that could help my investigation.
“Likewise, I’d like to speak to anyone who was in Nelson Mandela Park on Thursday evening and saw what happened. Please cast your mind back. If you think you can help, please get in touch.”
