A man has been jailed after pleading guilty to raping a woman in Leicester.
Tudor-Razvan Radutu, 26, of Laurel Road, Leicester was sentenced to four years and two months in prison at Leicester Crown Court today (Wednesday 23 June).
The incident happened in August last year at a property in the city centre area after Radutu had been socialising with the victim. The victim woke up in the early hours of the morning to find the defendant was raping her. He immediately stopped.
The day after the incident Radutu admitted to the victim that he had raped her. Officers were called and Radutu was arrested and subsequently charged with rape.
On 14 June he pleaded guilty at Leicester Crown Court.
Detective Constable Isabel Norton said: “This was a very distressing incident for the victim.
“We admire and thank the victim for her courage in reporting this incident to officers and encourage anyone who believes they have been the victim of a sexual offence to do the same.
“We provide full and confidential support for anyone who has concerns about an incident whether it has happened recently or in the past.”
