A Leicester man who raped and falsely imprisoned a woman has yesterday (Wednesday 27 October) been found guilty of a number of offences.
Abdiraxman Abdellahi was convicted at Leicester Crown Court for three counts of rape, digital penetration and false imprisonment. He was found not guilty of perverting the course of justice.
He previously pleaded guilty to assault following an incident with the same victim in January this year.
He will be sentenced for all the offences on Friday 10 December.
Abdellahi, 24, formerly of Brogue Street, first visited the victim’s home in Leicester in November 2020 where he raped her.
In March this year he visited her home again and during the evening he raped her on more than one occasion and stopped her from leaving the property. He tied up her hands and refused to let her get dressed.
Detective Constable Kerry Willden from the force’s Signal team, said: “This was an incredibly traumatic attack on the victim, the defendant was both violent and manipulative.
“The victim was extremely brave to come forward and report what had happened to her. She has been courageous throughout the investigation and court proceedings, this was in no way easy for her
“We are pleased with today’s verdict which is a testament to the work that has gone into getting this to a successful conclusion.
“Abdellahi may now faces a considerable time behind bars for his actions. We hope this reassures the victim and anyone else who has been in a similar situation and apprehensive about coming forward and reporting what’s happened to them.
“We have specialist officers within the Signal team who can support and guide you throughout the process. We also work closely with a number of other agencies and can refer you for ongoing support.”
Anyone who has been a victim but isn’t confident about reporting the incident is encouraged to contact the police via 101 or www.leics.police.uk. If you can’t contact the police directly get in touch with the sexual assault referral centre, Juniper Lodge, on 0116 273 3330 or via [email protected]
