The team of officers from the Hinckley and Braunstone policing areas, known as the Ascenders Assemble, are taking part in the challenge over a 24-hour period.
Make-A-Wish create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. A wish inspires a child to look beyond their condition and regain some of their childhood back. It gives them something to look forward to and helps to provide some respite and distraction from their condition and treatment.
So many wish children have been left heartbroken by the effects of the lockdown by missing out on their wish. It is so important for these young inspiring and brave children and also their families to have something to look forward to during this time.
PC Mike Bliss is one of those officers taking part in the challenge. He said: “Make-a-wish have had to cancel or postpone 2000 wishes as a result of the pandemic. That’s 2000 children who are now waiting for their wish. That means that right now, critically ill children are in isolation with nothing to look forward to giving us a really important mission to accomplish.
“By attempting this challenge, we hope to raise as much money as possible to ensure that no more children lose out on that one vital thing giving them hope. No child deserves to be without a smile.
“So far, we have done three practice runs, the last one being climbing Snowdon twice in one day which took us eight hours in total. This will be a challenge but we are capable.
