Detectives from Charnwood CID have launched an investigation following a report of a fire at an unoccupied house in Loughborough.
Police were called to Warwick Court, in Warwick Way, by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service following a report of a fire in a house shortly after 11pm yesterday (Thursday 28 April).
Nobody was found inside, but following further enquiries, it is believed that the fire was started deliberately.
Detective Inspector Charles Edwards, from Charnwood CID, said: “While our investigation is in its early stages, we would like to speak to anyone who saw or heard anyone entering the house last night.
“Fortunately, the property was unoccupied, but other premises were evacuated as a precaution and this incident could’ve had far more serious consequences. Any information you’re able to provide, no matter how insignificant you think it is, could help.”
Today (Friday) officers remain at the scene while the investigation continues. Officers from the Charnwood Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA) are also carrying out additional proactive patrols to provide reassurance to the community.
Inspector Matt Oswin, Charnwood NPA Commander, said: “We are continuing to work closely with our colleagues from the fire service and council to address any issues or concerns raised by residents following this incident. We are also carrying out additional proactive patrols in the area over the coming days.”
