On his arrival at hospital, the man’s condition deteriorated and he passed away on Thursday afternoon (1 December).
Yesterday evening (Friday 2 December), a 64-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident as police continue to establish the circumstances surrounding how the man died. He has been released on police bail.
Detectives are continuing to appeal for anyone who was in the area between 5pm and 5.45pm on Wednesday and saw anything relating to the incident to come forward.
Detective Inspector Mark Parish, the senior investigating officer, said: “Officers have carried out a number of enquiries but our work to establish how the man came to sustain his head injuries is very much ongoing.
“At the time of the incident the area of Charles Street and Yeoman Street would have been extremely busy – if you were in the area or passing through and saw anything you think may be connected to this incident please come forward.
“For anyone who was driving through the area with a dash cam, I make another plea, please check for any footage which may helpful to this investigation.”
It remains that there is no information at this stage to suggest this incident is connected to the man found injured in Tudor Road on Tuesday 29 November.
