Prolific burglar jailed for more than four years

A burglar who ransacked the home of an elderly man while he was away for the night has been jailed for more than four years.

In September the victim returned home to his property in Gallards Hill, Leicester, to find that it had been broken into and a number of items had been stolen including two televisions, jewellery, perfume and the keys to a van.

An image of the suspect was captured on a neighbouring video doorbell and following some enquiries by the victim online he managed to identify the suspect.

In October officers stopped Jason Taylor (pictured) in a stolen vehicle and when they searched his home address they came across some items that had been stolen from Gallards Hill, including the keys to the van.

At a hearing on Tuesday 15 February 48-year-old Taylor of The Portwey, Leicester, pleaded guilty to burglary and was jailed for four years and six months.

Detective Inspector Kevin Hames from West Leicester Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA), said: “Taylor is a prolific burglar who has been responsible for multiple offences over the years.

“On this occasion we were able to place him at the scene and also recover the items he had stolen.  He had no choice but to plead guilty.

“We are pleased with the outcome of this investigation and for the victim’s assistance throughout our enquiries.

“Incidents of this nature have a massive impact on victims, not only has their privacy been invaded but the loss of items, some of great sentimental value, can be devastating.”
