Detectives are investigating a fatal road collision in Countesthorpe in which a man has died.
Officers were called at 1.43am this morning (Sunday 31 July) by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service who were attendance at a collision in Foston Road.
The collision involved two vehicles, a blue Mazda 2 Capella and a grey Toyota Auris estate taxi, near to the junction with Welford Road.
The driver of the Mazda, a man in his twenties, sustained serious injuries and sadly died at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota sustained injuries which are not described as life threatening or life changing. He remains in hospital at this time.
The road was closed between Barley Lane and Welford Road while emergency services are at the scene responding. It has since been reopened.
Detective Sergeant Ed Des-Chanelle, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “At the time of the collision, the Mazda was travelling from the direction of Countesthorpe while the taxi was travelling in the opposite direction from Welford Road.
“I would like to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle beforehand to please get in touch.
“Alternatively, anyone who has a dash cam in their vehicle and may have captured something relating to this incident, please contact us with any footage you may have.”
