Detectives are investigating an incident in which a motorist was assaulted following a collision on the Blaby bypass – and are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
The incident happened on the A426, at the roundabout with Grove Road, just before 5.30pm on Tuesday (29 March).
A black BMW 3 Series stopped in front of a red Volkswagen Up. The driver of the BMW then got out of the car and assaulted the driver of the Up – who is 17 – and made threats towards him. The BMW driver, carrying a hammer, demanded that he hand over money to pay for damage to his car.
Police attended and a 27-year-old man from Leicester was arrested on suspicion of common assault, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, causing criminal damage and assault with intent to commit robbery. He has since been released under investigation.
Detective Constable Geraldine Beech, the investigating officer, said: “This incident occurred on a busy route at a time of day when people will have been returning home from work – therefore I am sure many motorists will have seen what happened.
“While we have spoken to some people who stopped at the scene, I am particularly keen to speak to any witnesses who have not yet come forward, particularly motorists with a dashcam in their vehicle.
“Any information or footage you can provide could help my investigation.”
