Some of our investigations which have led to charges and/or convictions in court during September 2022.
Convictions include a former canoe instructor jailed for 15 years after being found guilty of non-recent indecency offences on young boys; a police investigation into a drugs supply line operating in Loughborough leading to three men being jailed; and a man sentenced to 10 months imprisonment following his arrest during the disorder in East Leicester.

Former canoe instructor found guilty of non-recent indecency offences
A former canoe instructor from North West Leicestershire has been jailed for 15 years after being found guilty of non-recent indecency offences on young boys.
In 2020 the force received a report from a man reporting he had been indecently assaulted on a number of occasions by Michael Hudson when he was a teenager.

That investigation then led officers to contact another victim, who did report the offences against him to a third party in 2017 however wasn’t able to support the investigation at the time.
Following contact from officers he too agreed to support the case and provide evidence against Hudson.
After a lengthy investigation Hudson, 81, of Sycamore Drive, Moira, was charged with 10 counts of indecent assault on boys under the age of 16.
At court, he was found guilty of all the offences.

Men jailed following police investigation into drugs supply line
A police investigation into a drugs supply line operating in Loughborough has led to three men being jailed.
Enquiries led to a number of search warrants being executed across the Leicestershire area on 19 July this year.
This led to Michael Anderson, 58, Tapiwa Chokufa, 28, Levi Kemp, 28, and Mark Woolman, 27 being arrested.

A quantity of class A drugs was also seized along with cash, mobile phones and drugs paraphernalia.
Following the arrests, Anderson, of Queens Drive, Enderby; Chokufa, of no fixed address; Kemp, of no fixed address; and Woolman, of Sandown Road, Glenfield; were all charged with two counts of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs (cocaine and heroin).
At Leicester Crown Court, they were sentenced after all previously pleading guilty to the charges.

Driver admits killing police staff member
A motorist who attempted to overtake on a bend before colliding with the vehicle of a police staff member has pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision following an injury.
On Saturday 3 July 2021, Local Support Team Officer (LSTO) Darcy Elizabeth Reid was travelling citybound in her Nissan Micra along the A47 Hinckley Road, close to Braunstone Park, Leicester, when she was hit head on by a VW Golf – being driven by Connor Wilsher.
Darcy, who was 23, sustained multiple injuries as a result of the collision and died in hospital a few weeks later. Wilsher left the scene of the incident before police arrived but was arrested a short time later.
Wilsher, 21, of Coleorton Lane, Packington, Leicestershire, is due to be sentenced on Friday 4 November.

Victims praised for work in helping to snare sex offender
A 25-year-old man has been jailed for a number of sexual offences after his victims followed and photographed him.
In the early hours of Sunday 7 August this year, Lukas Masaulis approached two women in Leicester city centre and sexually assaulted both.
But despite a risk to their personal safety, they both decided to follow and photograph him while phoning the police to report what had happened. Both women were then sexually assaulted again, before Masaulis exposed himself to them.
Masaulis, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual assault, two counts of assaulting an emergency worker and one count of indecent exposure.

Prison sentence for man arrested as part of East Leicester disorder
A 20-year-old man has been sentenced 10 months in prison following his arrest during the disorder in East Leicester.
Amos Noronha, of Illingworth Road, Leicester, appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon.
He was arrested during the police operation in East Leicester.

Man charged following death of woman in Barrow-upon-Soar
A man has been charged following the death of a woman on Tuesday 6 September.
Ian Curson, 42, of Fairhaven Road, Leicester, was arrested following a collision which fatally injured 28-year-old Caragh Eaton.
Police had been called to Field Edge Drive in Barrow upon Soar at 4.40pm.
Curson has been charged with manslaughter and possession of an offensive weapon.

Charges made in relation to East Leicester disorder
A total of nine people have now been charged following reports of disorder in the East Leicester area. Charges made include for the offence of possession of an offensive weapon and public order offences.
The total number of arrests/voluntary interviews in relation to the reports of disorder is 55.
