Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a man suffered serious facial injuries during an assault in Leicester city centre.
At around 3am today (Tuesday 3 January) the victim, a man in his 20s, was seen on CCTV lying on the ground in Market Street. When officers went to his aid, it was established he had been assaulted. He was taken to hospital to be treated for significant facial injuries.
Following immediate enquiries, a 19-year-old man was arrested in Castle Gardens on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He has since been released on bail.
Detective Constable Josh Evans, from Central Leicester CID, is the investigating officer. He said: “Our investigation into this incident is continuing today and while one person was arrested in connection with the incident, I am keen to speak to anyone with information that could help.
“It happened in the city centre in an area where taxis are known to stop. I’m particularly keen to speak to any drivers with dashcams that captured the incident and speak to anyone who was in Market Street, Millstone Lane or Horsefair Street early this morning.
“Any details you’re able to provide could be of assistance.”
