Detectives from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are asking for information following a fatal collision in Ellistown Lane.
The collision, involving a single vehicle – a silver Ford Fiesta – was travelling on Ellistown Lane towards Stanton Under Bardon at just after 3am this morning (Friday 7 April).
The only occupant of the car, a 38-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene by East Midlands Ambulance Service.
Officers are asking for anyone who was in the area around the time of the collision to check their dash cams.
Detective Inspector Steve Kilsby from SCIU is leading the investigation. He said: “Where this collision happened in is a narrow country lane, but if there was anyone in the area that saw this car in the minutes before this collision, I’d be interested in hearing from you, and seeing any footage from a dashcam you may have.
“Anyone who lives on the surrounding roads and who may have CCTV – equally, I’d like you to get in touch.
“We have been at the scene since the initial call at 3.06am this morning and carrying out investigations.”
