Residents in Hamilton are being asked to check CCTV and doorbell cameras as detectives investigate two reports of armed robbery in the area.
Both occurred close to a supermarket in Maidenwell Avenue in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 22 February).
At around 3.40am, a man in his 60s was approached by two men, who pointed what was believed to be a gun at him and demanded money. The victim was able to run away and did not hand anything over, nor was he injured during the incident.
At around 4.30am, a taxi driver picked up two men. When they got into the car one of the men grabbed the driver – a man in his 50s – around the neck while the other man pointed what was believed to be a gun at him. The suspects took a quantity of cash and two mobile phones. They then ran off on foot towards the nearby housing estate.
Detective Sergeant Kat Maguire, from East Leicester CID, said: “We’re particularly keen to speak to anyone living nearby who has a CCTV or doorbell camera at their address. Please check your footage. Did you see two men wearing dark clothes in the area between 4.30am and 5.30am?
“I’m also keen to speak to anyone who was driving in the area and has a dashcam in their vehicle, or any residents who saw or heard two men acting in a way that seemed unusual or suspicious.
“Any information you’re able to provide could help our investigation.”
