Two men who threatened three women inside their Leicester home have been convicted of their crimes.
At around 10.30pm on 24 March last year, Pawel Kaminski and Florian Wiecki – along with another man who is believed to have left the UK – visited an address in Warren Street. Having armed themselves with a machete and an axe, once inside they made threats towards the three occupants, assaulting two of them.
They also stole cash and a key to the house before leaving the address.
A description of the men was given to officers by the victims and they were also captured on CCTV at the property. Kaminski was subsequently identified as a suspect and, after being arrested for an unconnected incident, was found to be staying at a hotel in the city. A machete – used during the robbery – was found in his room.
Officers discovered he had also booked another room at the hotel. When officers went to it they found Wiecki inside and he too was arrested.
Today (Tuesday 21 February), following a trial at Northampton Crown Court, 33-year-old Kaminski and Wiecki, 22 – both of no fixed abode – were found guilty of two counts of robbery and one count of having an article with a blade or point.
They were found not guilty of a further count of having an article with a blade or point.
Both men are due to be sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on Friday 31 March.
Detective Constable Sarah Jones, the investigating officer, said: “I have no doubt that the three victims were deliberately targeted because these men saw them as somewhat vulnerable – and knew that there would be cash inside the house.
“They thought they’d be able to take the cash and wouldn’t be caught. However, thanks to the descriptions given by the victims, we were able to identify who they were and arrest them.
“The victims have shown a lot of bravery throughout the investigation. They came to court and provided evidence during the trial which has only helped to secure today’s conviction.
“I hope both they and the local community can take some reassurance from the fact these dangerous individuals have been found guilty of their crimes and are now facing time in prison.”
