Drugs and cash recovered in proactive operation in West Leicester

Nine people were arrested following a proactive operation targeting the supply of drugs in West Leicester.
Officers from the West Leicester Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA) were joined by colleagues from the Roads Policing Unit and Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE) teams to identify those suspected of being involved in criminality and any vehicles also being used.
During the operation, which took place on Wednesday (5 July):
Nine people – all males – aged between 16 and 32 were arrested. A 32-year-old man was subsequently charged with drugs offences and possession of criminal property and a 23-year-old man was charged with driving offences. The other seven have been released on bail
More than £7,000 in cash was recovered
Cannabis with a street value of more than £5,000 and cocaine with a street value of £1,000 was recovered
Officers recovered two electric pushbikes and a lock knife
A vehicle reported to have been stolen was recovered, while another vehicle was recovered after no insurance policy was found to be in place
Sergeant Shaun Randall, from the West Leicester NPA, said: “Tackling the sale and distribution of drugs – and identifying those responsible – remains a priority for local officers.
“During this proactive operation we made a number of arrests and our investigation is very much continuing. We want to work with the community we serve to identify people involved in criminality and I’d encourage anyone who can provide information to do so.
